Fall 2019 Baita

The summer has come and gone, as usual, and I hope everyone enjoyed it to the fullest. With September comes the beginning of the school year and, of course, the planning for
the wine and sausage making at home. Please look at the important dates and mark them on your calendar. The renovations at the Club are taking longer than expected and as a result, we will not be having any
events at the Club until 2020. We will be making reservations at Casa Ricca to host our events until the Club is open. However, as a result of having the events at Casa Ricca, the sitting capacity is being increased to 140 people. So we have a great opportunity to not disappoint anyone by being left on a waiting list. The summer student that we hired with the grant from the Government of Canada has
completed her term. She could have worked longer, as we have so much more information we need to gather. She was able to increase our list of names from about 500 to over 1,000, and we now have many more e-mails in our data base. These emails are strictly used by the Club to inform the Trentini of events and special notices.

Summer 2019 Baita

With the cool, rainy weather we’ve been having, I hope that the next few months will help us forget what we missed in May and June.
Please look at the important dates and mark them on your calendar. The PICNIC will be something totally different with a mix of old and new. Check out the details in our Baita.
I will be attending the ITTONA Presidents’ meeting in Albany, New York. It is the annual get together to discuss the various Clubs’ successes, plans and a review of the next convention area, which is in Albany in 2020. The Club renovations are proceeding well. We have had great support and assistance from the community. We will hold a special open house after completion. The date for the open house will be noted in the next Baita issue. 55 – YES – 55 years from the Club’s origins is coming up soon. Details will be in the next Baita. Keep February 2020 in mind.

January February 2014 Baita Newsletter

A Happy New Year from all the Directors of the Club to all of You If we review the year of 2013, I can say with great satisfaction for myself and for the Directors of the Club that we have had a successful year. Participation is the KEY to keeping our Trentino roots alive and well, and in 2013 participation was up in all areas, well done and a big thank you to all of you who participated. The meals were fully attended as usual so we cannot boast about that. The Club membership was 149 in 2012 and 194 in 2013, wow. The summer picnic was a huge success with over 300 in attendance and 60 T-shirts given away to the youth. The Santa event had 52 youth in 2012 and 82 in 2013, a double wow. This issue and the next issue (March & April) is being sent to all the families we have on our Trentino mailing list. And that total Trentino mailing list is 337 strong. What we the directors and other
volunteers of the community would like for 2014 is for our Club members list to grow. For those who are renewing, thank you. For those of you who were not members in 2013, show your Trentino spirit, complete the form and become a member. Membership is simply not completing a form, sending in the fee and reading about all the events. Membership is also about you helping the Club with your financial support that will continue this strong Trentino spirit and for you to participate in the events we hold. Did you go to a Trentino picnic or a Santa event when you were small and do you still remember it ? If yes, then let your children have that same feeling and participate. Do you sometimes think that, if I attend an event I won’t know anyone ? Well maybe yes, but the next event you will attend, you will remember someone, so participate. And the final question, Do you get a smile on your face when you see one of your parents friends who you have not seen in a log time ? If yes, then participate. We have elected a new board of directors of the Club that commences their duties for 2 years starting February, 2014. Firstly I am glad to say that all the current board of directors have agreed to stay. In addition we have added more to the board of directors, they are Carla Gembrini, Natalia & Franco Prevedel, Maria & Rinaldo Lorenzoni and Lorena Danelon. That makes 16 directors, excellent. Check the key dates in this newsletter for upcoming events and make a note of the big one, Saturday, February 7, 2015 will be our 50th Anniversary and we are planning some memorable events. So try to leave that date open on your calendar. And as a final comment if you did not know we have a WEB page for you to check out and we also have a Facebook page you can sign up for.

Winter 2020 Jan – March 2020 Baita Newsletter

A very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all of you. As we close out 2019, we think back of the many successes we have had and the dear ones no longer with us. The directors of the Club would like to thank all of those volunteers, big and small, that helped out in what ever way they could. It is much appreciated. We also wish to thank all of you who attend the events. Attendance has been great and the future of our Club looks bright. We are trying something NEW this year. There will be no membership fee. We will be emailing the Baita for free to everyone on our database, of which we have over 1,000 emails. But for those people who wish to have the Baita mailed to them, there will be a fee of $25.00. This fee offsets the mailing costs, see the form inside. Renovations at the Club are proceeding, a bit slower than expected. We hope to have a grand opening in June.

On Saturday, March 7, 2020, more than 150 guests came together to celebrate the 55 years of our vibrant Trentino Club Toronto with an evening of dining, camaraderie and dancing. President David Corazza welcomed one and all, and introduced the Counsel General of Italy, Eugenio Sgrò, who congratulated us on our long history of promoting and celebrating our Italian heritage. During the evening, tickets were drawn and some lucky guests went home with lovely prizes. A commemorative booklet featuring many pictures and greetings was given to the attendees.

Canederli Dinner – Feb. 1, 2020 – Casa Ricca

The outstanding attendance that is the norm for our annual “Cloziani” and company canederli dinner, complete with our traditional canederli in brodo, and also with salsicce and salad, once again provided a very enjoyable evening. The number of people on hand at Casa Ricca totalled 135, including all the hardworking volunteers and servers. We extend our thanks for another fabulous success to all the many people who volunteered their services, especially Eddy Angeli for the preparation of the sausages, the wonderful kitchen cooks – Lorena, Alice, Gemma, Natalia, Carla, Maria Rosa and other servers and helpers.
